Stranger

Audio Murder Mystery, Comedy: 12-14 actors, gender variable

Midnight in Chicago. A frigid autumnal wind cuts like a knife. Aboard a northbound Red Line train, six strangers are bound by a mystery. “Who killed Laura Ramsey?”, they think, as they eye each other suspiciously, wary, judging, wondering who among them killed the young woman, and perhaps more pressing: “Who’s next?”

As a young coed rides a northbound red-line train on a cold Chicago night, she’s approached by a complete stranger—they’re reading the same book, isn’t that funny? The train suddenly loses power, and in the dark she is murdered.

A motley crew of passengers begins an investigation aboard this ill-fated train, led by a famous podcast host with a flair for the dramatic. But when another murder occurs—and another, and another—they realize two things: that they will all be dead unless the murderer is uncovered, and that they are not so much all strangers as….just strange.

This is an audio play; it was written during the pandemic to be performed via Zoom.
